My Work Experience Week with Berry and Oak

At Berry & Oak we are constantly striving to encourage interest within the financial services profession, especially when it comes to encouraging young enthusiastic talent to consider a future career in finance.

We’ve been working with schools in the local community and as a result of this Ben Humphries, an A level student from Tadcaster Grammar School joined us this week for his work experience. Ben spent the week assisting our administration and paraplanning team developing an insight into our industry. Ben’s ability to grasp many of the key aspects of the financial services industry was most impressive and we hope his experience will assist his business studies at school

When questioned about his time with us, Ben said

It’s been quite a surreal week for me, swapping out tracksuit bottoms and a jumper for a shirt and tie, experiencing the ins and outs of a 9-5 job; seeing the theory learned in the classroom being put into practice. It must be said when learning about costs for a business I would not have milk near the top.

This week at Berry and Oak has been nothing more than perfect. At a crucial time in my life of choosing whether I go into higher education or into the workplace with an apprenticeship. This week has given me a very informative insight into the sector of work I’d like to enter, allowing me to shadow the different roles of the staff, seeing first hand how much extra effort they will put in for their clients, whilst giving me my own tasks to complete through the week. All the staff here have been beyond professional and in a week have made me feel like one of their own.

We are pleased we have inspired him to consider the financial services industry as a career and wish him every success in the future.
