Journey of a lifetime

In many ways, our approach to financial planning is a bit like going on a journey.  Let’s say you live in Leeds but want to get to London. There are many ways you can do that – perhaps you’ll take the train, bus or plane, or even drive. But how do you know which way is best, and do you want to stop off on the way or go full steam ahead?

Financial planning is the same. You may already have your sights set on where you want to go, and just need a bit of help planning the route. Or you may want help identifying your ideal destination before we start mapping the way. Either way, we’ll be there to support and advise you at every stage.

Your six steps to financial confidence

Lifestyle Financial Planning is not about advising you which financial products to buy – it’s so much more than that. We’ll work closely with you using our proven six-step process.

Step 1

Getting to know each other

Before we do anything, we take time to find out about you; what you want from life, what your hopes and aspirations are, how quickly you want to achieve everything, and what risks you’re prepared to take to get there.

Do you want to plan for an early retirement? Free up some cash to help your children? Set up a new business or spend your golden years seeking adventure?

We’ll only provide advice on financial products or investments once we completely understand your life and your circumstances and then review everything regularly – we wouldn’t dream of working any other way.

Please note – our first meeting with you, where we will establish some of the answers to these questions – is at our expense. Meaning there’s nothing for you to pay until you are sure you wish to continue on your financial planning journey with us.

Step 2

Information capture

If you decide to continue working with us, the next phase of our journey focuses on gathering information about your current financial arrangements and any plans you already have in place and analysing them in relation to your aspirations. In other words, we’ll see how close you already are to achieving your goals. We’ll ask you to provide details of your assets, income, expenses, policies and plans. But don’t worry if all your documents are in one box and you’re not sure what you’ve got… we’ll help you organise and understand them, reducing the headache for you as much as possible.

Step 3

Comprehensive investigation

The next stage involves a period of analysis and research on our part. We’ll undertake a thorough review of your financial picture and work out what’s needed to ensure you reach your goals.

We do things a little differently from other firms. We know that men and women see things differently, so we like to have a male and female at every client meeting, wherever possible. We think this really helps to get a balanced view of every client’s situation, letting us offer 360° advice that really resonates. Having two people at each meeting also makes it much easier to drill down into the detail and keep a clear record of what has been discussed and decided.

Step 4

Your bespoke plan

We’ll then put our recommendations into your financial plan and present it to you. It will include a range of scenarios for you to consider, including options you may have asked us to explore, as well as others we’ve created based on what we know about you.

We’ll explain your options and agree the path forward that is right for you. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions before we agree which steps and actions to take.

Step 5

Putting the plan into action

If you’d like us to, we will then take the administrative burden from you and implement any changes that we’ve agreed. That could involve transferring funds, exiting policies or opening new accounts. Sometimes the changes required to ensure you’re on the right path are small. Sometimes they require more fundamental changes. Either way, we’ll be right there by your side, helping you to take those steps in the right direction.

Step 6

Keeping on track

We’re there for our clients through thick and thin. By working with us on an ongoing basis, rather than occasionally, clients are able to get the most out of our service. It allows us to really get to know you, your family and what’s really important to you. We can be there to help you weather the storms of life and we can act quickly when a change in circumstance necessitates a change to your financial arrangements, keeping you on track and one step ahead when life threatens to throw you off course.

Our annual reviews are a chance for us to update you on your investments and the progress we’ve made towards your end goals. It’s also a chance for us to revisit your attitude to risk and find out if there are any new options we could be taking advantage of to grow or protect your wealth.

Whether you work with us on an ongoing basis, or for a shorter period of time, ultimately, we have one aim: to help you and your family live the life you want, free you from worries about what the future might hold.
