During my time at Berry & Oak, I dived right into the world of work and found out what it takes to work at a financial advisor. At the start of the week, I was introduced to the whole team and got settled in with a friendly and supportive group. I had the opportunity to apply what I had learned in the classroom into real life applications; seeing how I could adapt my knowledge to a new work environment.
I had the opportunity to shadow several members of staff to see how each of their roles played a crucial part in a well-functioning team of advisors. Furthermore, I sat in a client meeting which gave me an insight into how rewarding it can be to tell clients that they can retire and live a comfortable life. More than anything, my time at Berry & Oak has given me an invaluable understanding of what it is I want to do when I leave education and start working.
Our Reflections on Louis’s Work Experience at Berry & Oak
We were delighted to welcome Louis to Berry & Oak for his recent work experience placement. From the very beginning, he showed great enthusiasm and a genuine interest in learning more about the world of financial planning. He quickly became part of the team and approached every task with maturity and a willingness to learn.
Louis had the opportunity to shadow several members of the team, gaining insight into the many different roles that come together to deliver a high standard of financial planning to our clients. He also joined in a face to face client meeting.
We believe that work experience is a valuable opportunity for young people to explore a profession they’re interested in and test whether it’s something they’d like to pursue further. It’s also a chance to bring classroom learning to life, applying theory in a real world setting and beginning to understand the expectations and responsibilities that come with the working world.
Louis also spent time with Louis J, who joined us earlier this year after finishing university, and Megan, who is now coming to the end of her one year placement with us. This gave him a well-rounded view of the different routes available after sixth form, helping him make informed decisions about his next steps.
We were extremely impressed with Louis and received very positive feedback from the team. We’re confident he has a bright future ahead and we wish him every success in whatever path he chooses to take.
