At Berry & Oak, giving back to our community is a vital part of who we are. That’s why we’re proud to support the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund as our chosen charity for 2025.
This incredible organisation supports children and families affected by congenital heart disease, and we’re honoured to play a small part in their amazing work.
As part of our ongoing monthly volunteering, team members from Berry & Oak are visiting Leeds Children’s Hospital in pairs to help deliver smiles — and snacks — alongside the charity’s Wellbeing Trolley.
Recently, Rebecca and Megan took their turn and had the privilege of spending time with patients and their families. They helped hand out treats and thoughtful items from the trolley, including face masks, snacks, soft drinks, ice lollies, teas, coffees, puzzle books, and colouring books.
One of the biggest hits? Rebecca’s homemade brownies, which were a real crowd-pleaser with both children and parents alike!
These visits are a simple but meaningful way for us to give our time, connect with families during a challenging period, and show our support for such a vital cause. It’s a special opportunity for our team to come together, month after month, and make a small but genuine difference.
We’re proud to stand with the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and look forward to continuing our support throughout the year.
Who is the Leeds Heart Surgery Fund?
The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF) is a Leeds-based charity dedicated to supporting individuals affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) across Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, and surrounding areas. Established in 1988, CHSF works in close partnership with the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit (LCHU) at Leeds General Infirmary.
CHSF provides a range of support, including:
- Funding for life-saving medical equipment and advanced technologies
- Financial assistance for families facing hardship during treatment
- Accommodation for parents and carers near the hospital
- Emotional and practical support services
- Training and development for clinical staff
- Investment in scientific research and new clinical roles
A notable aspect of CHSF’s work is the provision of a “Katie Bear” teddy, certificate, and medal to every child undergoing open-heart surgery at the LCHU. This gesture offers comfort and a tangible keepsake for young patients and their families.
Over the years, CHSF has awarded over £10 million in grants to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit and its supporting hospitals, enhancing care for countless CHD patients and their families.
