At work

Connor officially joined Berry & Oak as an intern in May 2024, but many clients already know him as Andrew and Sarah’s son. His connection to the firm began early, attending his first client meeting at just six months old in his car seat, and he has been assisting at client events since he was 14.

At home

Connor is a keen sportsman who spent the last nine months in Ohio, USA, initially playing basketball until a knee injury led him to discover a new passion for lacrosse. Despite unfamiliarity with the sport, his determination and resilience saw him officially join SPIRE’s Lacrosse team in early 2024 as well as continuing to play for their Post Graduate Basketball team.

In the spotlight

What do you like about working at Berry & Oak?

Even though I have not worked here for long, everyone has made me feel so comfortable and welcome that I already feel like part of the family. It is very clear to me that the clients also consider themselves part of the Berry and Oak family – that personal side of things means a lot to me.

What does the day in the life of an Financial Planning Intern look like?

In my role I have been assisting with client meetings including preparation, discrete returns calculations, and periodic suitability reports. I also attend meetings to take notes. I have predominantly been working with EIS and VCT investment providers, logging this information in our back-office systems, and liaising with accountants to ensure that tax relief is claimed on behalf of the client. Additionally, I have helped organise and support the team at our summer client investment seminar.

What are your top three life highlights so far?

  • Living in America for 10 months to pursue my passion for basketball.
  • Successfully completing my A-levels.
  • Traveling and experiencing diverse cultures.

What is an ability you wish you had?
