Sarah is the Founder of Berry & Oak, along with her husband Andrew. Sarah’s role covers 2 functions, the Operations Director, and a Financial Planner.
In the Operations Director role this can be HR related such as Recruitment, Payroll, Staff Training and Development, to Premises, Submitting the Gabriel, or VAT return, or overseeing compliance and office processes. Sarah also has responsibility for the marketing strategy, social media presence and delivering the Berry & Oak Business plan.
In the Adviser role, Sarah meets with clients to work with them on their financial plan to achieve their goals and ensuing that they stay on track. “Being there for our clients through thick and thin is what they depend on us for. I absolutely love seeing the clients journey with us from that initial meeting, where we are really just starting to get to know them, to working together to design the life that they’ve always wanted but just didn’t realise was possible. The feeling of success when a client retires from work to start enjoying their life more, with the reassurance that the financial plan / strategy we have helped them build and stress test will see them through, is why we do what we do”
Sarah is also a member of the PFS Financial Planning Practitioner Panel, which is a group formed by our professional body the Personal Finance Society to help promote awareness of financial planning and our profession to the next generation.
Sarah enjoys running and hopes one day to be able to run a marathon and enjoys photography and spending time with her family and friends.
Sarah enjoys pushing herself to take on challenges to raise money for the Charities that Berry & Oak supports. In July 2011 Sarah completed a cycle ride from London to Paris, raising money for Help 4 Heroes, in October 2018 the Berry and Oak team completed the Yorkshire 3 peaks raising over £3200 for St Gemma Hospice and in September 2019 Sarah completed the Great North run raising over £1000 for the Alzheimer’s society.
What do you like about working at Berry & Oak?
I enjoy seeing how the planning that we do with our clients can help them get the most from their lives – whether it be knowing they can retire early, or take that holiday of a lifetime.
What does the day in the life of a Financial Planner and Company Director look like?
For me every day is very different. Some days I meet with clients and help them plan what their future looks like, another day I could be writing the company newsletter, or reviewing the business strategy for the next quarter. It’s my responsibility to set the vision for the business and keep us on track. I’m passionate about building a team that reflects our culture, lives our values and strives to be the very best.
What are your top three life highlights so far?
1. Marrying Andrew at the Ice Hotel in Sweden
2. Becoming a mum. I’m so grateful we have such an amazing son who constantly amazes me.
3. Walking along the Great Wall of China – incredible!
What is an ability you wish you had?
To be able to fly like Superman, where I could travel anywhere on a whim and see the world from a bird’s eye view.
What’s currently top of your bucket list?
I would love to go back to Chengdu in China and spend some time volunteering with Pandas International, supporting the work that they do with the giant Panda (and have the opportunity to get close to these amazing animals)
Which song gets you on the dancefloor?
It would have to be Mr Brightside by The Killers – every time! It’s also Andrew’s favourite song so the best way for me to get him up on the dance floor with me.
What’s the one talent you have, that people would be surprised to know about you?
That I’m a second Dan in Karate!
